100% VA Disability vs National Guard pay?
I am currently active duty USMC doing a skillbridge and have been considering the National Guard to continue my service for retirement/health insurance purposes. I just recently filed my BDD claim & finished all my C&P exams. I have about 95 days until my EAS and have been talking to a National Guard recruiter about doing an interservice transfer. I have been trying to figure out how VA disability pay and guard pay works but can’t find an exact answer.
A bit about my situation-
I’m a SSgt (E-6) with approx 9.5 years on Active Duty.
My wife has 100% P&T VA Disability so she has health insurance/benefits regardless. We don’t have any children as of now (idk if that makes a difference but just thought I’d mention it).
If I were to also get 100%, would the pay from the National Guard be worth it doing just the standard x1 drill weekend/ mo and x2 weeks training/year?
Not entirely sure how it works with BAH/Base Pay and VA Disability. I’ve read you can’t collect both at the same time so I’d have to give up one for the drill weekends/any training.
This page has helped me so much throughout the BDD process so thank you to all the members on here, you guys are great.
Appreciate any advice!
Thanks.
