Purple heart and tbi after discharge

I've read a few posts regarding purple hearts for tbi after discharge. I've been strongly advised from people within the va and other vets to pursue a purple heart for my tbi. I read the requirements and I do meet them. I'm nervous about submitting the paperwork for it because I don't feel it's deserved and I don't think I have medical records for it.

In 2011, I was clearing my 50 cal and was standing on the roof of my gun truck when the fob came under heavy 107mm rocket fire. The first rocket landed within a few feet of the front of my truck. I don't remember the incident, I'm going off of what my fister (the guy that controls planes and bombs for the army) told me happened. My memory comes to when I'm being checked out by the medic. This was a long 2 week mission so receiving care outside of the medic for this was frowned upon. I have recently seen the tbi neurologist through the va and they determined that my tbi was most likely from that explosion. I did have pretty severe burns on my face from the explosion. Think a bad sunburn. My driver has since passed and my tc was my company commander and I'm not sure where hes at these days.

What are yalls personal experiences with submitting for a purple heart for tbi after discharge? I know there are folks that have been severly injured and that weighs on me with this. I plan on reviewing my medical records this weekend. I'm getting 1 buddy statement as he is the only one I'm still in contact with and he was in my truck.
