Freshman CSCE major laptop recommendation

Hello guys! I am a freshman in the CSCE major this fall. Would anyone give me some recommendation for buying a laptop please? Do u guys think a windows or a apple would be better? What tech specs would you guys recommend? Are there any softwares in the CSCI and EE classes that can only run on windows?

What tech spec would you guys recommend? Do u guys think a i5 processor and 16 gb ram is necessary ?
