why are rug tufters super into Pokemon?

An inflammatory title, but I mean well. Now that I'm getting more into tufting, I'm noticing a lot of people produce beautiful Pokemon, Kirby, and just generally anime / video game themed rugs. Anyone have any theories on why this is? Is it because buyers love these things?
