Klaus is delusional
This is about klefan. I was rewatching tvd n in s2-3, he genuinely believes turning Stefan into the Ripper would turn him into the "friend" he knew in the 20s. Yes, it's partly cuz he's fascinated by the Ripper but also cuz he seeks the bond they once shared. He genuinely believes what he's doing is for Stefan's good. Highlighted in dialogues like "When I'm done with him, he won't wanna go back", "I fixed him" n that whole "I've given your life a purpose as your friend" speech. In his head he's doing right by Stefan as his friend. Only when Stefan does turn into a Ripper, he turns against Klaus. I think Klaus only gives up on this idea later when he realises they're never going back to how things were in 20s - when Stefan outright states that he's accepted that part of himself and so Klaus can't control him anymore n puts him in coma 2/3 eps later
