Tesla windscreen replacement at Autoglass - good experience on second attempt
Cross posted here as it is specific to Autoglass
When my windscreen cracked after being struck, my insurers required me to get a replacement fitted by Autoglass. This took a few weeks, no problem, as their Tesla-trained guys only visit my nearest Autoglass base occasionally.
The replacement took around six hours as had been advised. When I collected the car the new windscreen looked perfect. Unfortunately, as the car approached 50mph, a loud wind noise started, and became worse as the speed increased. The noise emanated from the top of the windscreen. I returned to the Autoglass depot where the staff advised that if the noise was still present after three weeks (glue settling time), I should return and they’d happily fit another windscreen.
The noise persisted so I contacted the warranty department via the Autoglass website. They claim a 48 hour response but it takes much longer than that. Don’t worry, they call back eventually. My car was booked in for a return visit. Upon arrival, the staff said there was no need for a test drive to confirm the work. Their attitude to this second replacement was altogether very positive and without any hint of it being a hassle. They did say that the removed noisy windscreen would be returned to the manufacturer for inspection.
This time the work was completed in five hours or so. The wind noise has disappeared completely and I’m relieved.
The point of this tale is to reassure you that if Autoglass work on your car, they will gladly stick at it until you are happy.
