Is Trait Tracker the biggest skill check the game has ever had?
For those who don't know: Trait Tracker is a gold augment that gives you 5 random emblems after you've completed a round fielding 8 different traits.
So for this augment to work, you have to look at your board and think "Okay, how do i get to 8 traits from here?" Most of the time this involves completely changing your comp to hit those 8 traits asap, possibly having to give up whatever comp you were going for. You then also generally have to be smart about using your gold, as you have to balance leveling up to fit enough units and rerolling the shop to hit the units needed for 8 traits.
Then after all that and you've achieved the reward, you then have to look at 5 random emblems and think "Okay, how do I fit these all into a cohesive comp?" Which, again, most of the time involves completely changing your comp to work around the emblems you got, possibly having to give up whatever your 8 trait comp was, or your original plans were to pivot from that comp.
Having to do all this pivoting, while you're actively fighting players who are likely stronger than you and you're just bleeding hp because of it. I feel like this is the most dizzying and biggest skill checking augment, or anything really, that we've seen in tft. The only things that come close in my mind is recombobulator, which is generally reserved for hitting early 4/5 costs and not really caring about keeping a cohesive team, and think fast, which was removed because of how much of a skill check it was.
Is there anything else that comes close? Maybe an old set mechanic I've just blocked from my memory? Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
