what songwriters do you think are actually as "poetic" of lyricists as people make taylor swift out to be?
Let me start this off by saying that I by no means think taylor is a "bad" lyricist, like she has some obviously good lyrics and some not so much, which is totally fine, not everything has to be serious and "deep" but when her fans hype her up as being a "masterful, deep, poetic, genius, legendary" songwriter, it really opens up other people to hold her to those same standards and in my opinion she falls incredibly short of being that.
She obviously prides herself on storytelling which she does well and its admirable that she writes a lot her own lyrics but i feel as someone who listens to her music more casually, it's easy to see where she tries "too hard" to make it deep and it comes across as tumblr and pinterest quotes.
All this to say, everytime I hear this rhetoric from her fans I can think of a handful of artists who are much less known than her who have achieved this level of lyricism and when i put that into perspective and compare her lyrics to that it becomes quite obvious, so i was curious if other people felt the same and who you think truly possesses this level of lyricism? (obviously you can disagree with this sentiment but this is just how i feel.)
I also can't help but feel that TTPD which includes poets is just gonna be a bunch of tumblr lyrics based off the track titles.
some artists that come to mind with this lyricism are: hozier, samia, fka twigs, the last dinner party, laufey, aurora, matt maeson, and some others!!
