Grand Prix Manual & Rewards

Note: Valve has made some changes to this event since the time of posting. Additionally, event is low-key rigged as of Day 3.

Clearing up some instructions that weren't clear in the rules.

My Best Attempt at an Analogy:

Your boost capacity/odometer is your gas tank. You can fill your gas tank with points from games, surplus points can be claimed later when you have more gas tank capacity. Once you boost you permanently cripple your gas tank capacity by how much you boosted. Improve your gas tank capacity by spending $$$.

Odometer is your boost capacity - This is calculated by Total Steam Purchases + Left Over Lunar + 100 per day played in event. You should start the event with 0/capacity. Albeit, this may have been bugged earlier throughout the day.

  • Odometer/Boost Capacity will remain as 0/0 until you join a team

From the Steam Page:

  • The size of your Boost Meter is determined by Steam purchases you’ve made on your account prior to and during the Steam Grand Prix Summer Sale. We’ve also converted unspent 2019 Lunar New Year tokens into Boost Meter capacity.

To fill your Odometer/Boost Capacity - You can play games for achievements which seems to be the easiest way(E.g. Warframe/TF2/CS:GO achievements). Or missions appear to be repeatable (E.g. Farming in Stardew Valley). Surplus points can be used to fill your boost capacity on another day. (Your boost capacity increases by 100 per day if you participated)

  • Note: In order to fill your Boost Capacity with points from your game achievements, you must play the game for 30 minutes DURING the event. Which will then allow you to redeem the points you've made from ALL your completed achievements in that game. The most recent game you played for 30 minutes will be selected for this.

Boosting - Once you boost your boost capacity equivalent to how large your boost was will be permanently lost. (E.g. if you boost 1k you permanently lose 1k boost capacity) The amount you boost is based off the largest boost increment you can afford(?). If you have over >1k your boost will always be 1k = 25 nitro.

  • You can boost as long as you have points.
  • 1,000 points is the maximum boost
  • If you have less than 1000 points, all your points will be consumed in the next boost
  • If your points exceed your boost capacity, this is a bug.
  • If you can't boost despite having sufficient points and boost capacity this is a bug.
  • Per every 100 Nitro your entire team cumulatively donates, your teams speed increase by 0.1x for an X period of time. Boosting will also give you a 1/4 chance of obtaining an attack which can decrease an enemy team of your choosing by Y Nitro for X period of time. The values of X and Y have not been shared by Valve.
  • (Unconfirmed) Most efficient way to gain attacks is to boost with 100< points because regardless how many points you use to boost you have a 1/4 chance of getting an attack. To do this you must boost out your current point capacity. Make the smallest purchase you can on steam, boost, and repeat.

Does your boost capacity reset?

No, I started with a boost capacity of 19,458, which was easily filled by claiming my game achievement of 60k+ points. If the boost capacity were to reset it'd be equivalent to valve providing me with a $5 off coupon or 194 card levels per reset. Additionally, it is NOT noted in the rules that this will reset.

  • This has been confirmed. It does NOT reset

Q&A

Also should I go ahead and burn all my boosts or save them?

If you care about the FINALE prize it'd be best to preserve them and slowly distribute them/push when you're neck and neck for a top 3 position, because a team is limited in the number of grand prix points they can gain per period. Additionally, if you dont intend on filling your boost capacity daily, then it'd be ideal to preserve some points to use for the next 24 hour period.

Help, ______ looks bugged

Whelp, so here are your possibilities/options:

  • Switch between the web browser and steam client
  • Clear Cache and Cookies for the site
  • Switch to a different web browser
  • Try Again Later
  • Valve made an oopsie. (Highly Probable)

How does the "Boosts Remaining" work? how do you get more boost slots https://i.imgur.com/SGbYdMP.png

You can continue to boost as long as you have more points. If you have less than 1k points, it'll use all your remaining points towards the boost. Meaning if you have less than 1k points you'll only have 1 boost because it'll consume all remaining points. The maximum boost size is 1,000 points. So a person with 4500 points will have 5 boosts(1000 + 1000 + 1000 +1000 + 500)

So if you don't care for the giveaway and race the boosts and nitro means nothing?

Yes, if you dont care about the pitstop rewards and daily/finale prizes than the event means nothing

What happens to my unspent boost capacity from previous periods?

This carries over to the next period, take note BOOST capacity != the eligible points you can receive from game achievements +quests/missions

The FAQ page in the pitstop said I was supposed to receive ______ starting capacity

This calculation is broken.

So if you've got ~4k on day 1 you only get 100 on day 2 and NOT ~4k (from day 1) + 100 (for day 2)?

Yes, if you got 4k on day 1 and spent it all on boosts. You only start with 100 on day 2 unless you've made more purchases during the event.
