Were their any other in lore reasons why Trakata wasn't utilized that often?

I've always found the explanation of "dishonor and cowardice" to be a bit underwhelming. Turning off your weapon is very dangerous, but as far as I know I don't think it's ever really been a canonical answer

Was another explanation ever given? Or is the "you are without honor" thing the only explanation?
