Care STL Rescue Neglecting Dogs
UPDATE: The director of Care reached out and they will be covering her treatment costs. I appreciate all of the kind words and people understanding that rescues and fosters are both doing their best, and that everyone involved ultimately wants to support these animals.
Also, Care is updating their protocols to test and treat all animals at intake.
We fostered a dog earlier this year through Care STL and just found out they are not testing or treating their dogs for heartworms even though they have a fund setup for this. Because they ignore our requests for basic care support, we have had to pay out of pocket through our vet for routine care and checks. Our foster was recently diagnosed with heartworms and Care STL just informed us they will not cover the costs and that we have to either foot the $3,000 plus treatment or let her die.
Has anyone had any similar experiences? I don't understand how they are receiving funding and are still in operation when they can't even provide basic care for the animals. And why are they still taking in animals instead of redirecting to rescues who actually support the pets they take in.
Do not recommend fostering through them.
