Heritage starter from 1847!
Yesterday I learned from a coworker that you can get a starter from 1847 (!) that Oregon trail settlers have carried with them, by sending a request with a prepaid envelope to a historical society. Here's is the link: https://carlsfriends.net/ Other than the postage fee and unbelievably long waiting times, it's a free way to get a really old starter. Has anyone here got it, how does it compare to your regular starter? I would expect it to be just like any other starter, but maybe the age of the strain does impact the flavor or other qualities of the dough? P.S there seems to be no recipe at the website other than the instructions how to revive a dry starter culture you get in an envelope.
