Got my first stream. I tried pepsi and starry flavoring and it tastes like shit.

what am I doing wrong? I bought the pepsi and starry syrup from amazon and no matter what adjustments I make (ex. more carbonation, more syrup, less syrup) they all taste terrible. what can I do to make it taste better? or am I just SOL.
