Chekhovs Chip - Petey’s not done.

Chekhov’s Gun is a storytelling principle stating that every significant element introduced in a narrative must serve a purpose later. If a gun is shown in Act 1, it should be fired by Act 3, ensuring no unnecessary details clutter the story.

Petey’s chip, placed around Cobel’s neck after saying “that’s (the chip) Petey” is a total Chekhov’s Gun Situation.

  1. If Petey’s consciousness exists in that chip then eternal consciousness is on Lumon’s radar.

  2. If Eternal consciousness is on the table then Gemma could live forever.

  3. Gemma(s) could be the “sacrificial goat” for all unpleasantness by all severed people in perpetuity once her chip is perfected.

The severance barrier that Drummond refers to is likely the chips ability to partition Original Gemma from all the other Gemma’s pain and suffering.

Not sure how but Petey is going to make a comeback. As a person? As data? Who knows. But when he does return, I want to be the first to suggest we call him REPETE!
