Does XP Leveling in SoG Work?

My players seems to do better using XP to level instead of milestone leveling. Has anyone run SoG with XP leveling or mapped out the encounters and XP rewards to see if the 1000 xp per level works well with this AP or should I use slow or fast advancement?
