Coming to visit

I know this is probably posted a lot but i have specific circumstances. coming to visit a friend who couldnt take work off on the first friday i am there. I will have all day (til about 4/5pm) with access to a car. I have never been to the bay area (except once briefly). Would a solo day trip to the Monterey bay aquarium be silly? What else could i spend the day doing
