I just don’t know what to do.

My old boy (16) was diagnosed with CKD two years ago. Since then he’s lost so much weight. He’s a pretty tall and long cat and was about 17 pounds before. Now he’s down to 9. In the last 3-4 months he’s had the most significant weight loss.

I’ve tried everything the vet has said. He has his renal food, I do SubQ fluids, he’s on an appetite stimulant and nausea medicine, he’s on glucosamine to help with his arthritis, and he gets a probiotic daily. He eats but just not a lot. He’s not interested in human food or treats either.

He still jumps up on the bed and moves around and uses the litter box so he doesn’t really act sick in other ways. He just won’t eat all of his food and he keeps losing weight. He looks like he’s gonna die. His sides are so caved in and his face is so skinny. It’s getting harder and harder to find a spot to do his fluids without hitting his bones.

I took him to the vet 2 months ago and all she said was to get him to eat more. But I don’t know how I’m trying everything. I know he’s old and eventually will have to pass away. It’s just so hard. I’ve had him since he was a tiny kitten and I was 14. He’s my best friend. I just don’t know what to do.
