Small, liberal arts colleges, e.g. Sarah Lawrence, Oberlin?

I'm curious about how this segment of the educational market is doing. Over on the Sarah Lawrence subreddit, it seems like half of the freshman class is planning on transferring. It looks like there's a substantial misery factor with the cliques and general unfriendliness, not to mention the notorious mental health issues. You might remember that's the college where a student's father moved into her dorm and was later convicted for sex trafficking on campus (!). Totally insane, but true story about a really messed up place.

And then there's Oberlin. It looks like they have to pay $35 million to a local business after the administration was found the central culprit in accusing them of racism after they caught African-American students shoplifting.

All in all, with the changing financial environment and shifting cultural winds, I am wondering if these kinds of places are just going to be seen as great big albatrosses around the neck of anybody trying to get a decent education while fighting against the current of their colossal bullshit.

Anybody on the ground at any of these sorts of places?
