Puppy on a road trip?

Hi, I need advice. I have a six month old pug puppy. He’s my whole world. I have a girlfriend, who equally loves this pup; however, I’m his main owner. I made the decision to get him, I pay the vet bills and he lives with me. In our city, my girlfriend and I only live a few blocks apart so she sees him all the time and understandably adores him. Over the holiday break, we both went home. Our families that we go home to live super far apart (22 hour drive). I drove home and my plan is to drive up to her family’s place (22 hours from where I am now, at home with my family) and spend New Years. I was originally planning on bringing my pup with me on this drive, but as it has gotten closer, I’ve talked to my mom lots and she’s suggested just leaving my pup with her for the week instead of putting him through the 22 hour drive on winter roads in and out of hotels. I have that kind of support at home, and it feels silly not to take advantage of it and leave my puppy in the great hands of my family, where is very comfortable, safe and happy instead of making him come on a 22 hour road trip. My girlfriend is now super mad at me and distraught about the dog not coming on the trip because she won’t see him now for an extra week or so, which obviously breaks my heart. What do I do?
