What changed in our schools?
I know several of you will remember atanding outside in freezing temps waiting for tge school bus; riding to school with little to no heat; eating breakfast in a cold lunchroom(heater tried but the space was just too big); wearing your jacket for half the day in class because the hallways and most of the classrooms werent quite warm enough yet... I remember school being called off for snow. I remember it being delayed by 2 hours for one reason or another.. I also remember our parents getting ample notice so they could make arrangements for a baby sitter or to be off that day. The current school district we attend regularly calls after 6pm the night before or the morning of, to let parents know they wont be having school. I received a call at 7:40 this morning to let us know they cant have school today because when they checked the classrooms this mornimg it was too cold still (60°F inside the classroom; heat on but hasnt had time to warm the entire building yet). They apologized for the short notice like always but as I said this is a regular occurence for them. How are parents expected to make arrangements for their job on less than an hours notice? Are all the schools like this now or do we just need to move? What changed in our schools?
For the record I do understand it being too cold in the classrooms and I dont want them to freeze the kids. I remember the misery of trying to write when your fingers are throbbing in pain. I dont want them to send the kids to school; I do believe its fairly easy to predict with the current temps here the fact the heaters wont be able to keep up. I believe they knew this in plenty of time to notify parents with enough advance it doesnt cost them their job.
