Need advice on becoming a paramedic
So I’m 26 so I know I’m starting late but I want to become a paramedic with the hopes of moving into a flight medic job. I have a fiancé that’s disabled and can’t work and a step kid, I’m the income for the family. My biggest question is what is the most cost effective way of becoming a paramedic? I don’t have a lot of money I make $85,000 from my trucking job but these days that’s not much. Should I go to nursing school and move to get my certs that way or should I go through these accredited online course I’ve found? They’re a 16 week EMT for $1500 a 12 month EMS for I think $3000 and an 18 month paramedic for $6400, they all end with the board test to get your License. Will a company take those certs seriously or would college be my best option?
Edit: after reading comments and talking to a few of you I just have one clarification. Me mentioning my pay with my trucking job wasn’t as a I need a better paying job it’s more of a I’m bored to death and burnt out driving trucks and want a career change. Like yea I get paid well but the being away from my family 3 months at a time is draining and not worth the money. Even if I only get to see them 2 hrs a day that’s still more than seeing them 4 days every three months. That being said I’ve decided to do nursing school then get my CEN, CFRN, and CTRN and do traveling ER and ICU nurseing, that way I have a wide range of skills that can be used pretty much anywhere. Me and my fiancé are currently buying an RV and plan live in it with the kiddo and do my traveling nursing. I live in Amarillo that has a community college with low tuition and we have two big hospitals for me to cut my teeth and gain my experience. I greatly greatly appreciate all of your guys advice and I thank you for wasting a little bit of time to point me in my direction.
