Communication protocol

Very broad question here for the community. My plant still has a lot of data highway communication. Several lines are still running on it. What’s the best way to convert to Ethernet? Can we go machine center by machine center? Example would be the labeler on a bottling line.

To get even deeper we have even more profibus it seems like. Is the next step Ethernet for this too?

To make this question even more broad. Today at work we had a bad Allen Bradley 160 drive, which is on a devicenet card. The drive running input was dropping off for 5 seconds and triggering the mp 22 motor faulted alarm on the panel view. We plugged into the devicenet card to help find out what the drive fault was and what the Fault buffers were. Ended up having boost applied to a new baldor wash down motor and we’ve found these motors run best with no boost. Root cause ended up being the 160 drive after we tried a new devicenet card on the face of it.

Anyways, any input is appreciated. We are trying to migrate slowly. The effort is there just needs to be justified.
