One foot in Lutheranism, one foot in EO. Please help- not really looking for a debate.

I’m having a hard time picking a denomination. There are so many inconsistencies, and I’ve found that I need consistencies- as does everyone who wants to follow the teachings full-heartedly.

This isn’t a post to berate anyone, or to argue a point- I am actually lost.

Here’s the issue…

I was raised in a Confessional Lutheran (WELS/ELS) environment, but have recently distanced myself due to perceived inconsistencies in biblical interpretation (overly strict adherence to certain details) and a perceived lack of historical grounding in apostolic worship practices.

Initially, I believed Orthodoxy offered a more authentic path, particularly given my concerns about the Papacy and other historical issues within Catholicism. However, I'm now encountering similar concerns within Orthodoxy.

For example, 1 Corinthians 11:5 clearly states that women should cover their heads during prayer. Yet, I observe many young Orthodox women in the United States not adhering to this practice. And not only that, but priests are claiming it to be optional. While I understand cultural nuances can influence interpretations, this specific verse seems to have a clear and unchanging directive.

I'm not seeking to criticize or condemn anyone, but I'm genuinely confused and seeking guidance on how to reconcile this apparent discrepancy between biblical instruction and contemporary practice within Orthodoxy.

Here is the passage in case it is needed: “But every woman who has her head uncovered while praying or prophesying disgraces her head, for it is one and the same as the woman whose head is shaved.” ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭11‬:‭5‬ ‭NASB2020‬‬

I WANT TO MAKE IT CLEAR THAT THE HEADSCARVES ARE NOT THE ISSUE. My issue is that priests are teaching something that is counter to a clear statement/rule in the New Testament, while also claiming that they are directed by the Holy Spirit.

So… is the Holy Spirit directing priests to teach that the head covering is optional (counter to NT) or are priests not being directed by the Holy Spirit? (Or neither, I don’t know- that’s why I’m here)
