I eat lunch in my car with a Quest 3
I used to prop up my phone on the steering wheel and watched a show while I ate during my lunch break. Now I get to watch a movie theater sized screen. Skybox in passthrough mode is perfect for still being able to see my Big Mac™️ 〽️.
I wasn't worried about people staring at me in the parking lot because I have no shame. I was worried about Quest 3 boot time and navigation time to get the file playing. If it was going to be a 5 minute ordeal every day I'd probably skip it. But nope 30-60 seconds.
As far as comfort goes - I'm just using the default strap. I only wear it for half an hour so it's fine. I almost prefer it over one of them fancy gaming straps because of the car's headrest. I don't want any chunk of plastic on the back of my head butting up against that. I do get a little bit of goggle face but it clears up in minutes. Hair fixed with a quick finger comb.
Charging - I just plug the headset into my car's USB port while I'm not watching. Charges enough during my daily commute to offset the half hour of use. Controllers I haven't quite mastered yet. Just swapping out AAs when necessary. I would like to combine that into my USB charging situation but haven't researched too hard. It's gotta be plugged in rather than some sort of wireless cradle because cars move.
Transferring files. This leaves a lot to be desired. I sail the high seas on my android phone directly. I have a USBC cord that plugs directly into the Quest 3 and transfer files that way. But it's finicky. I haven't side loaded or installed any of the fancy file management apps I've seen on here. So it's plugging the phone in, quickly hitting the pop-up to allow file transfer, start the transfer, then have it fail sometimes because...idk. I tabbed out on my phone and it didn't like that? Bumped the cable? Hard to say. Either way I definitely want a wireless solution. I have Google drive and did that once but obviously its much slower. Also McDonald's WiFi isn't great. Even if all goes well - this whole process bumps up my 30-60 boot up time. It encourages me to do this whole process at home in batches of many episodes at once. Which is fine, but not conducive to watching the latest episode of a show that's in season.
The Sun. I don't take any special precautions. I am just hyper aware of where the Sun's at. I'll hold my hand out to see which way the shadow is casting. Then point the front of the headset toward the Sun. I store the headset in a drawstring bag. I did buy a real carrying case but it was designed to accommodate rigid headstraps. Since I'm using the stock one, the case is way larger than I need.
