Is it possible to truly recover from childhood trauma?

I started therapy a few weeks ago, and I feel like I have so much work to do. My therapist told me to write down every traumatic event I could remember. The more I wrote, the more I noticed how fucked up my childhood was. I feel like I’ll never get over it, never forget it. I’m losing hope. Will it ever get better? How long is it going to take? Did you ever recover from your childhood trauma?
