thermal monocular aiming

Was thinking about bridging a thermal monocular. Curious for those who use this method, how do you aim? Do you just use the thermal for target ID and then shoot with the NV? I'm curious if there are situations where you may not be able to see with NV. Also curious of bindon aiming/occluded eye aiming concepts would work. Say for example your NV gave out and you still have the thermal but no aiming solution. Can you shoot with the other unaided eye through your red dot? Same concept works under NV since your brain merges the image, but idk if it works that way with thermal.
