The Promise

Are any of you guys familiar with “The Promise?” It’s essentially the final boss in the NGEU (Neville Goddard extended universe) that claims you complete your life cycle and are reborn as Jesus Christ after a period of visions/spiritual experiences. The visions are bizarre and biblical in nature and take place over a period of I believe four years? Either way it’s peak spiritual psychosis and if you think your average, garden variety Neville worshipper is bad, wait until you come across these people.

There is a Promise sub on here that is mostly run by one individual (won’t name names) who is the main ringleader of this movement. The sub is very small as even the most devout Neville worshippers keep their distance. This was also apparently the case back in Neville’s day- once he went off the deep end and started preaching about The Promise, less people attended his lectures. The entire concept of these beliefs are nonsensical and unfortunately very exclusive- I say unfortunate because believers of The Promise dismiss skeptics as inexperienced and essentially ignorant about its existence. It’s like the typical Neville gaslighting dialed up to 100. Here’s an example:

Average follower: Oh, you didn’t get a text from your SP? You didn’t visualize correctly.

Promise believer: Oh, you don’t believe in the promise? You haven’t experienced it yet, you just haven’t realized you’re Jesus.

What kills me about Promise believers (at least the ones on Reddit) is how volatile they are. Go into their post histories and you’ll see them getting butthurt and arguing with people who they don’t agree with. You will also see that their lives are far from ideal. They are very troubled people and it honestly reminds me of the stoicism sub. Despite its name you’ll see dudes on there absolutely losing their shit at the drop of a hat and it makes sense- you don’t join a sub like that because you already are stoic, you join it because you aren’t. It’s the same for these promise believers and really anyone in manifestation subs.

I know LOA believers are regarded as cult-like and there is some merit to that, however I truly believe if there is ever going to be a full blown cult that springs up from Neville’s teachings it will involve The Promise people. 100%. Thankfully the main ringleader isn’t aggressive or charismatic enough to lead a cult (despite their asskissers) but I can see someone predatory taking over and managing to commodify this form of spiritual psychosis pretty easily. I’m honestly surprised it hasn’t happened yet.

I honestly have no idea what the ringleader’s deal is. I don’t believe in The Promise but I do believe them when they say they’ve had these weird ass visions. My honest guess is that they fell down the mean girl to tarot/spiritual/crystals pipeline and then developed full blown spiritual psychosis somewhere along the way. What concerns me is that I’ve been seeing a huge increase in coaches who are now preaching the I AM bullshit so I’m not sure if the tide is turning for the worse. Like the people who have been failing at this for years are looking for answers and go down The Promise rabbit hole as a final resort… and these coaches are preying on that. I also think there is an element of delusion on the coaches’ part- I also believed in The Promise and proselytized about it despite my life being super moldy. My life was so bad that I genuinely think if the people I was preaching to saw what I looked like as I was typing out those comments they’d snap out of their LOA delusions and become normal again due to the obvious contradiction 😭 and trust that I was not the only loser offering advice on that sub- they all were/are like that.

So, what are your guys’ thoughts? Have any of you also fallen down The Promise rabbithole? I put Promise believers in the same category as reality shifters (but I think the belief system behind reality shifting is far more dangerous but that’s another topic for another time.)
