Tough time on maintenance

I've been on maintenance for about two weeks now and find it very difficult. The problem is, if I eat at *maintenance* calories, I *gain* weight. I then have to go back to eating at a calorie deficit for a few days to lose that weight. So, for every day I have been eating at maintenance, I've had to eat at a deficit for a few days to lose that weight. I don't understand what is going on and don't want to have to live the rest of my life spending most of my days eating at a deficit.
Is it just my body adjusting to not eating at a deficit. Any incite or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
