Wild weight fluctuation on maintenance

Hi all,

I hit my goal weight around two weeks ago. During the next three days, I ran calorie surpluses by eating sweets and other crap on top of my otherwise healthy diet. I knew that running a surplus would cause me to gain weight, but I thought it would just be a pound or so and wasn't worried about that.

To my shock, I gained 4 pounds in three days. From a calories in/calories out standpoint, in no way would the calorie surplus be enough to justify gaining that much weight. It has taken me about ten days to lose it back.

My question for people in maintenance: Is this the reality of maintenance? Eat somewhat too much and gain a ridiculous amount of weight and then have to fight hard to lose it back? Or is this just my body adjusting to a new situation (i.e., eating a caloric surplus) and the weight won't fluctuate so wildly in the future even if I overeat for a day or two? Any suggestions?

Thanks so much. BTW, I will be posting this on the. Zep sub as well.
