Help with monstera rescue!

Hello! I recently was given this monstera by a woman whose cat wouldn’t stop chewing on it. It’s my first monstera and I’m a little overwhelmed by where to start with the care. It’s in decent shape but needs some help.

About half of the leaves have been damaged in some way, some worse than others. The stems all seem healthy and the pot it’s been in is 10” in diameter and 8” deep. Some of the roots are peeking out of the top of the soil, especially when the plant falls to one side.

Should I just care for it as normal until it recovers on its own, or should I first prune the leaves that have been damaged? Does it need to be repotted or should I just add more soil to the current pot to cover the roots up?
