Seeking Advice on Mold Issue in Rental Property

Hi everyone,

My 2-year-old child and I have been getting sick frequently, and I’ve occasionally noticed a damp smell in my home. Although I don’t see any visible mold, I suspected it could be an issue. I conducted a moisture test, and parts of my bedroom walls showed 17% moisture, which is quite high. I also did a DIY mold test, which detected Penicillium, Mucor, and bacteria.

I’ve contacted my landlord multiple times, but after their inspection, they said there’s no visible mold and simply advised me to keep my windows open.

I’d appreciate any advice on the following:

  1. How can I compel my landlord to conduct a thorough inspection and address the mold if found?
  2. If my landlord refuses to take action, what are my options? Can I address the issue myself, or would hiring a professional help? I’m hesitant to call in an expert on my own, as I don’t want to be held liable if issues arise later.

Has anyone dealt with a similar situation? Any guidance would be really helpful.
