Need Advice from Indian officers

Hello,

I'm currently in 12th grade with PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics). Initially, I was aiming for the JEE like many typical engineering students, but after struggling in 11th grade, I realized that I’m not cut out for it. I failed my 11th grade and had to repeat it, which made me rethink my future. I’ve decided to quit JEE and engineering altogether, but now I'm at a crossroads, unsure of what to pursue next.

Financially, my situation is not great. I don't live with my dad as he left us, and my mom and I live with my uncle, who has been a godsend in terms of both moral and financial support. Given my academic struggles and financial constraints, I know I won’t make it into a decent government engineering college, and I don’t want to burden my uncle with the fees for a private engineering college. It’s crucial for me to become financially independent as soon as possible.

A relative who’s in the Merchant Navy suggested that I consider the DNS (Diploma in Nautical Science) course from a reputed college. He mentioned that it’s less grueling compared to JEE, the fees are affordable, and it offers early career success, which is what I need right now. Having made up my mind to pursue this path, I am seeking some suggestions, reality checks, and guidance from this community.

I want to mention that repeating 11th grade and dealing with my personal circumstances has been tough. My mom and I are entirely dependent on my uncle after my dad left us. I can't afford to bet four years on a B.Tech degree without job security. Seeing my friends in their first year of college while I'm still figuring things out is quite disheartening. Any guidance or recommendations would be immensely helpful.

Here are my questions:

1.Will a career in the Merchant Navy truly help me become financially strong?

2.How does this field compare to a typical engineering career in terms of growth and opportunities?

3.What is the real-world salary like in the Merchant Navy?

4.How should I prepare for the IMU-CET exam? Currently, I’m focusing on my basic books and NCERTs. Are there any online resources or books on Amazon that you would recommend for IMU-CET?

5.How can I secure admission in good colleges like AEMA or TMI?

6.What is life really like out there on the seas?

7.Is it possible to switch careers later on if I want to?

8.I have ADHD and a history of depression (currently on medication and doing much better). I wear specs due to migraines and weak vision, and I'm slightly overweight. Will these factors restrict my chances?

9.I’m aiming for Tolani and AEMA. How can I improve my chances of getting in?

I would really appreciate it if you could share your experiences, any advice, or insights about the Merchant Navy.

Thank you for your help
