To make the Scraplauncher work, you'll also need a unit of Gnoblars - so I also prefer the Ironblaster. Pro tip: Paint them before you build them, I learned it the hard way.

\nOverall both are good - I personally prefer the scraplauncher. My opponents tend to underestimate it.
\nThe scraplauncher is...trash though. It essentially only exists to give infantry units -1 to hit. Which is obviously a good effect but there are absolutely times against anything with a good save where you won't kill the single model necessary to apply the debuff. The points are just so much better spent elsewhere.
\n\nWith AoA AND Gnoblars nearby, you have a 70% chance of doing 2 dmg into a 4+ save with no AoD.
\n\nThe Ironblaster doesn't really do enough for its points these days either, 2 shots hitting on 4s means it's useful for cover fire. Until the Hail Shot goes back to hitting on 3s, or until it's more like 150 pts, I can't see myself ever using it.

\nI'm sorry but the scraplauncher has 4+ to hit and 4+ to wound which is already okayish but with the +1 rend against infantry and 3D6 attacks it's pretty good in my experience. The crit auto wound just add to it being a solid artillery choice for the low point cost. The fact you can also debuff enemy units and increase the crit roll to 5+ with gnoblars (which also work as a shield for your launcher) is just amazing.
\n\nAt a cost of 160 points there isn't much else that you can spend points on. Sure if you add gnoblars you might as well take another unit of gluttons, they are definitely better than the launcher. But if you want some ranged attacks to annoy your enemy and force them to react it's great. Just adds some tactical variety to the rather small unit variety of ogres.
\n\nAnd beside the rules the model looks great (same for the ironblaster)
\nI see where you're coming from but... it doesn't force your opponent to react because - FULLY buffed - it's doing 2 dmg into a 4+ save. That is scaring no-one. Make it 120 pts and we can talk, then it feels cheap enough to be a kind of home objective 'holder' (well, screening out deepstrike) while hopefully doing some chip damage and putting the -1 to hit on certain infantry targets.
\n\nYou're absolutely right that it looks great though. I don't think the warscroll is terrible it's just far too expensive in the context of the army and utterly useless into lists that don't have any high save infantry.
\nWhat do you mean 2 damage into a 4+ save? Of course I don't use it against armies with good saves and more against horde armies where the anti infantry buff applies more frequently. For example against stormcast or chaos the ironblaster would be more useful (still wouldn't bring it lolol) but against skaven or gits the scraplauncher is solid.\nI think we can agree on the costs being a bit too high and you're better off with additional gluttons or Ironguts but if you want some ranged artillery I prefer it over the ironblaster
\nIronblaster for TOW. It is a heavy chariot, which can be good if the cannon stops working. Though, its ability to blow right the fuck up sucks on a nearly 200pt model. Soooooo, probably skip it.

\nIf only dice honored statistics. Over maybe 10,000 games, sure, it would probably be that. But I'll tell you, dice aren't always that kind and across a single game you have a handful of chances for a solid feels bad moment and for not nearly enough payoff.

I have two Ironblaster/Scraplauncher-sets. I have yet to Play a Game with my ogres, but I think that the Ironblaster is generally the better Option. The Hobbyist in me urges me to Build one Version of each… What do you think? Is the Scraplauncher that Bad? Or am I missing something?
