275 vs 29er. Does quality play a role?

I know where the general discussion around wheel size and tire size is. Bottom line being that while 29er has clear benefits, there's still roon for some personal preferens and for casual riders it is all about personal taste.

For competive riders the benefits are more clear and at least I think the market is heavily influenced by what is used in and developed for competitions.

What I'm thinking is that any downsides from 29er (too complient and or too heavy) can be largely compensatet by having more expensive and lighter wheels and tires. A competitive rider can have lighter stuff and probably have no issues to change carbon parts if they could be damaged (for being a bit on the risky side as too light) and swapping tires often. You still need longer chainstay etc. so it is not all apples to apples, but I think with optimal parts the benefits for 29er vs 27.5 are greater than when comparing aluminium rims and a bit heavier tires. For a casual rider on a budget 275 makes more sense than for a serious rider going for speed or for one with just little restrictions on budget.

Am I completely wrong?
