[Results and Decisions] Got an Admit from NEU with scholarship

Hey everyone,

I got admitted to Northeastern University (NEU) Boston for MS in CS with a 10% scholarship (approximately $5,700). Here’s a quick rundown of my profile:

Profile:

  • GRE: 318/340 (Q: 166, V: 152, AWA: 4.0)
  • GPA: 9.16/10 (B.Tech in Computer Science, University of Mumbai)
  • Work Experience: 1.5 years at a semi-high-paying MNC (Tier 2; think just below FAANG level)
  • Research Papers: None
  • Community Work & Extracurriculars: Some, but nothing exceptional

Universities I Applied To (MS in CS):

Ambitious:

  • UT Austin (Dream school)
  • UMD College Park
  • Purdue
  • UMass Amherst

Moderate:

  • Virginia Tech (Upper moderate)
  • UC Irvine (Also upper moderate)

Safe:

  • NEU Boston
  • ASU

My Questions/Concerns:

  1. Should I still apply to SUNY Stony Brook? I was planning to, but now that I’ve been admitted to NEU with a scholarship, I’m reconsidering. I know SUNY Stony Brook is ranked quite a bit higher than NEU, but I’m not sure if it’s worth the additional application effort or cost. Thoughts?
  2. Chances at Other Universities? What do you think are my realistic chances of getting into the other universities I’ve applied to?
  3. Should I Pursue My Master’s Right Now? The job market seems rough at the moment, and as an international student, I’m concerned about potential policy changes (especially related to visas). While I can cover some tuition with my savings, I’ll still need to take on some debt.
    • Is it worth it to go forward with my master’s right now?
    • Apart from UT Austin, are there any universities on my list where, if admitted, I should absolutely go?

I’d really appreciate your input on my situation! Whether it’s advice about NEU vs. SUNY Stony Brook, my chances at other universities, or whether now is the right time for grad school, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
