Does heavily customizing a Linux distro significantly impact performance?

Hi everyone! I'm wondering if heavily customizing a Linux distro can significantly impact performance. I'm thinking about things like changing the DE, WM, themes, icons, and tweaking system settings.

I love the customization options Linux offers, but I'm worried about sacrificing performance for aesthetics. Has anyone noticed a performance hit after heavily customizing their distro?

Any insights or tips on balancing customization and performance would be great!

Thanks!
