Somebody went through my bins and now a random number keeps calling me (England)

I'm not sure if this is the right subreddit but I'm not sure where else to ask, I recently moved house and I was throwing away a few bags of rubbish that included old paperwork (which was thoroughly ripped up). The next day somebody had gone through my bins, all the bags had been taken out of my black bin and cut them open on the pavement and my stuff was strewn across the pavement and road. My house was the only one this had happened to on the street.

Yesterday I had about 40 calls from a random number and loads of 1 second voicenotes on WhatsApp. I picked up the third call and they asked if this was my name and said I gave them my number last week then kept mumbling, I didn't confirm it was my name or not and handed it to my friend to talk to them. Where I live has a strong regional accent and this person had the same accent.

Yesterday morning also a homeless man asked me for money outside my house when I was packing my car up with a few pieces of my move, this isn't rare for where I live. In retrospect he seemed more interested in speaking to me than my neighbours and after I'd given him some money he asked for my name and shook my hand. I didn't really think about this until writing this post but am wondering if people are trying to confirm where I live and my number.

I just am not sure how serious this is and if it's something I should pre-emptively report as it seems a bit more than a regular type of scam, and if there's anything I can do proactively to make sure my identity is safe. Also if there's a better subreddit to post this in please let me know! I'm just a bit spooked
