Why is this place so boring now?

When I was a kid There used to be a small amount of cinemas and a little bit of nightlife. As a teenager all of those places closed down. What’s even worse is that before I was even born (the 90s, I was born in 1999) this place was even more interesting. My parents told me that there was more wildlife (like herds of deer sometimes) but now that’s even gone now. I spoke to one of the old timers and the bars and cinemas used to be more numerous. What happened to this place?
