Lg G4 / PS5 handshake issue (& a bad solution)

Issue: PS5 directly connected to LG G4 wasn’t showing hdmi 2.1 supported features mainly 4k120hz. It was also saying due to hdmi 2.0 bandwidth, 4k60hz hdr will have limited colour etc.

bad solution: Drop the direct connection, pass it through an avr or soundbar with 2.1 pass-through.

I passed the signal through my soundbar (q990d) and voila, I have 2.1.

I read in a forum deeply buried in the internet going through avr worked for someone with the same tv, g4 77”. I am guessing there is some serious handshake issue somewhere. No it is not the cables.

Things I tried otherwise 1) Lots of $$$$ hdmi 2.1 cables 2) Other PS5s : Pro&Slim neither supported 2.1 3) Xbox Series X : perfectly supported 2.1 4) All settings possible video AND sound AND cec/earc etc on both ps5 and lg tv. 5) Different ports on LGTV. 6) Aforementioned PS5s on Samsung S95D: worked perfectly admittedly through x3800h avr. I am not sure if direct would work.

I am not sure if the issue is widespread. I only saw 5-6 people having the issue on internet with 2-3 hours of search. I am guessing LG will say sony’s fault and vice versa. Most people will not connect directly to this TV which doesn’t even have a stand in the box anyways.

Hope this helps some.
