Opinions and thoughts on Ninja 400 as first bike

Looking at getting a 400 ABS as my first bike. I built one up on Kawasaki's site and did the quote request to a local dealer, so just waiting to hear back from them. But what is everyone's thoughts on this as a starter bike? Ive heard the 400 is good as a starter, but I do not yet know enough about Kawasaki as to whether or not its a good starter, or if I am looking into the wrong bike...
