Teen Geto reacting to bullets is an underrated feat (Manga Spoilers)
sorry about how quiet i got burnt out but I have been amassing ideas for future posts so ill try and start working on them now I am starting to get more time, i promise i have way more interesting stuff than this aha
As always if there is an issue with my post/reasoning, please do point it out as I would hate to be pushing wrong information but I think this is a safe post and shouldn't have anyone disagreeing with it as it's just an evaluation of the speed of the bullets that Toji fired towards Geto, and Teen Geto's Reaction Speed
During Hidden Inventory just after Toji kills Riko, Toji fires 3 bullets towards Geto which he manages to block with no difficulty from just a few metres away
https://i.redd.it/7yeno455wa8e1.gif
Depending on the bullet used in Toji's handgun it could change the speed it travels at a bit, ill go over the most common bullets used in the past 20 years as HI takes place in 2006
(I am going to talk a lot so if you want to just take my word and assume its mach 1 that is valid feel free to skip to the end as 80% of the post is just talking about guns and that is when i actually get into how this)
here is a list of some of the most common calibers that were used in handguns around 2006
(350 m/s = Mach 1 (Speed Of Sound)
- 9mm Luger (9x19mm Parabellum) - 350–400 m/s
- .40 S&W (Smith & Wesson) - 350–400 m/s
- .45 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol) - 250–300 m/s
- .357 SIG - 400–450 m/s
- .22 LR (Long Rifle) - 330–450 m/s
- 10mm Auto - 400–450 m/s
- .38 Super - 350–450 m/s
- 5.7x28mm - 600–730 m/s
- 7.62x25mm Tokarev - 430–500 m/s
- .44 Magnum (in semi-autos) - 450–550 m/s
- .50 AE (Action Express) - 430–580 m/s
Bullets i chose to keep off the list
there were also 5 other bullets that take spots on the list but I opted to keep them off as the Handguns they are used in are not similar or close to what Toji was using size wise, if you see me mention how a model is "Sub-Compact/Compact" it just means that it is small and isn't comparable to what Toji was using size wise
.380 ACP (9mm Short) - 270–330 m/s (amongst small/compact handguns this is pretty common and higher on the list but it is a bullet for small handguns and it is fair to say that Toji did not use it as ill show later the Handgun that Toji uses is not small)
45 GAP – 250–300 m/s – Subcompact-Compact (it was created in 2003 and was primarily used in the Glock and was unable to find much success outside of that brand.
I found 5 gun models that were made for the .45 gap, 3 came from Glock and out of those 3 one of them was released in 2006 the other 2/3 from Glock are compact and subcompact and the other 2 (not made by Glock) were either never released or developed in 2007 and released in 2008 after HI, because very few models used this caliber up to 2006 and the few that do are either sub/compact or were made the exact same year HI takes place and were not popular as they were discontinued later I think it is fair to factor them out)
.32 ACP (7.65mm Browning) - 270–300 m/s - compact and pocket-sized handguns
.25 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol) - 230–280 m/s - pocket-sized handguns
9x18mm Makarov - 300–330 m/s - compact Russian Handguns
I chose to keep the .32 ACP, .25 ACP, and 9x18mm Makarov off the list because these calibres are primarily used in small/compact handguns, which are a lot smaller in size compared to full-sized handguns like the Sig Sauer P226 which represent the typical size of a standard widely used handgun.
i hope this makes it clear that the gun on the right is what I mean when I say small/compact handguns and it is a lot smaller and is not comparable or close to the gun Toji used in the Manga (ill show some pics of the gun Toji uses later on in the post)
the issue is that it is hard to tell what Handgun Toji is using so I can't properly identify the bullet and the m/s it's travelling at but I think it is fair to assume it is a 9mm as they are the cheapest and some of the fastest as well and they are most common (absurdly common compared to the rest),
but i don't really think it matters what type of bullet it exactly was as 10/11 most commonly used bullets in Handguns are above mach 1 aside from the .45 ACP and this becomes even more apparent when we start factoring out sub/compact handguns or guns that don't have the same features as Toji's
Statistics
I apologise for using US Statistics although finding information on Japan is incredibly difficult and scarce. Japan still uses the same bullets and this is just to show the vast difference in how much more popular the 9mm is in comparison to other calibers which still applies to other countries
To .22 Caliber
- .22 Short – 200–280 m/s– Primarily small pistols and pocket handguns (incredibly small handguns and because of this I am not factoring them in as they aren't common and don't match the gun Toji is using)
this is usually the type of gun a .22 short is used in and why it is being factored out, this also applies to the .25 ACP/.32 ACP
- .22 Long Rifle (LR) – 330–450 m/s – Compact handguns, small target pistols
- .22 WMR (Winchester Magnum Rimfire) – 450–600 m/s – Small to medium pistols
To .25 Caliber
- .25 ACP – 230–275 m/s – Pocket pistols, ultra-compact handguns
To .32 Caliber
- .32 ACP – 270–300 m/s – Compact pistols, concealed carry Handguns
- .30 Super Carry – 350–425 m/s – compact, subcompact and Full Sized Handguns
To .380 Caliber
- .380 ACP (9x17mm) – 280–320 m/s – subcompact pistols, Compact
- 9x18mm Makarov – 315-350 m/s – Compact military, police handguns (more of a historical Russian Police Firearm)
To 9mm Caliber
- 9mm Luger (9x19mm Parabellum) – 350–400 m/s – Compact, full-sized Handguns
- 9mm Largo (9x23mm): - 350 m/s - Compact, full-sized Handguns
- 9x21mm: - 350-375 m/s - Compact, full-sized Handguns
To .50 Caliber
- .357 SIG – 400–450 m/s – Compact pistols ,Full-sized pistols
- .38 Super – 350–450 m/s – Full-sized pistols, Competition pistols
- .40 S&W – 350–400 m/s – Full-sized pistols, Compact pistols
- 10mm Auto – 400–450 m/s – Compact pistols, Full-sized pistols
- .45 ACP – 250–300 m/s – Compact pistols, Full-sized pistols
- .45 GAP – 250–300 m/s – Compact pistols, Full-sized pistols (3 Handguns existed for this caliber up to 2006 because this bullet was made in 2003)
- .50 AE (Action Express) – 430–580 m/s – Full-sized pistols
there is a lot of information here that doesn't apply so ill break it down to the part that matters
.22/.25/.32/.380 range are all commonly used in small/compact handguns and have significantly fewer sales compared to the 9mm and .50 range and just aren't as common for handguns outside of compact/Subcompact models so I just won't be considering those (but even if we did consider them a good few of those are also around mach 1 aswell, especially the .22 range as it also has good sales in comparison to the rest)
The 9mm is also significantly more used in handguns compared to other calibres and it isn't really close considering the 9mm based off statements and statistics is one of the most used calibers and the second largest competing category is the .50 Range which is composed of 7 calibres with the majority of them being in the top 10 most commonly used bullets in Handguns and the 9mm is able to surpass and equal those numbers
A 2007 US survey concluded that "about 60 percent of the firearms in use by police are 9mm" and credited 9×19mm Parabellum pistol sales with making semiautomatic pistols more popular than revolvers
Gun Identification
it would be better if we knew what Handgun Toji was using but it seems to not be modelled after any real model
although what we do know is that we can see Toji's gun has an External Hammer
Grip Size: Full-size handguns typically have longer grips, leaving extra space below the shooter's hand, whereas compact and sub-compact models have shorter grips that the hand fully occupies,
the gun is also a lot more blocky shaped compared to a gun like the M1911A1
the trigger also rests in the middle of the firing guard
The Trigger guard has a unique shape i will explain further in a minute
This is probably the best example of how big the difference is between Sub-Compact, Compact and Full Sized Handguns, since hand sizes are not the best to go off I also left an image of their sizes to show the difference I will also send some irl examples of those same guns
Here is a Glock 26 which is a Sub-Compact Handgun and you can see how only 2 fingers fit below the Firing guard and on the grip
This is a Glock 19 a Compact Handgun and you can see how it just fits 3 adult fingers below the firing guard on the grip and leaves no excess space unlike Toji's Handgun which noticeably has a lot of space left on the grip
(This is why Sub-Compact/Compact Handguns were factored out as they just don't come close to the size of the handgun Toji is using)
here is a Glock 17 for another size comparison which is a full sized handgun that leaves a lot more space below the fingers alike to Toji's Handgun
Here is another angle of Toji's Handgun
In these images we can see The trigger guard has a rectangular shape and tilts upward near the grip. Additionally, the grip and trigger guard together account for about two-thirds of the slide length (This is important to identify the gun)
Some people believe its a M1911A1 .45 ACP but I just don't see why as there are large differences in the gun model we seen drawn in the manga and that model
The gun has a more rounded shape although it is a lot harder to see here,
the trigger unlike Toji's Gun rests right next to the grip (should be in the middle)
the firing guard and grip ratio to slider are very off
aside from being a Full Sized Handgun with an external hammer there isn't many connections,
I personally think its the Sig Sauer P226 9mm
it has every similarity I mentioned between with Toji's Handgun
and has some ties of use to Japan Police Force
(unrelated but Jason Statham the actor Toji is based off also has used this gun in a few movies, not really good evidence but I just think its cool and wanted to mention it)
but this isn't about trying to find out what gun Toji uses,
the purpose of this post is to just show how small of a chance the caliber Toji used was the .45 ACP
just something I thought I should mention but, the 9mm despite already being vastly more popular is cheaper and a lot faster in comparison to the .45 ACP I don't see why he would use a bullet like the .45 ACP, it's just not efficient to use a slower bullet especially when the 9mm is faster and penetrates deeper
Last part before I go back to JJK
(I was going to go really in-depth but I didn't realise that handgun models aren't documented that well so I couldn't list every model like I wanted to do from each major gun manufacturer up to 2006 and then break down every handgun into categories divided by caliber to show that 9mm by a large margin makes up most handguns they make and the .40 S&W is the second most common with around 10-20% of handgun models for manufacturers like Smith & Wesson, Sig Sauer, Springfield Armory, Heckler & Koch, Ruger, Walther, Taurus,
although this was my own look at most handguns and any information i could find of which it seems like a lot is either not fully documented which makes it really hard to do that
i tried to do so with Glock i think this is every model i tried my best with it despite the limited information online (the Wiki lists like 7 models for the .45 ACP) although maybe this shouldn't be used as 100% factual information but this seems to be common for a lot of the popular handgun manufacturers with most of their inventory being 9mm and .40 S&W)

i really do apologise if i got this list wrong or missed models i am not really a gun guy i learnt all of this just so i could make a post to glaze Geto although i really did try and look over it as many times as possible to circumvent this!
Done with the Gun Rant
I think that is about everything I could mention for the gun part, I now want to cover the actual feat and a counter-argument I know will be brought up in response to this post,
"Maki as a 2nd year had pulled off the same feat so this really isn't that impressive"
there is a large difference in what Geto and Maki did,
The issue with this is that its a Rubber bullet and this makes a lot of sense as the only rule in the Goodwill Event is no killing so there is no reason for Mai to use real bullets
Mai uses a Colt Python .357 Magnum if it had been a real bullet this would have been a crazy feat, but since its a Rubber Bullet it is designed to travel a lot slower compared to a real bullet around 90-180 m/s making it no where near the same level of speed compared to what Geto reacted to and blocked
she actually confirms she is using Rubber bullets right after taking out Nobara
anyway as to how this speed feat actual effects Geto and how it helps to scale him it means we can say that he should be able to react just fine to attacks on par with Piercing blood
We see Piercing Blood break the sound barrier just prior to Uraume blocking it meaning it had just reached mach 1 so factoring in the bullet feat he should be completely able to react to Piercing Blood and other attacks around/slower than it
in reality, since Geto reacted fine to the Mach 1 bullets this shouldn't be a cap on what he can react to and he should be able to react to stuff a little above that speed to some extent but I can't think of any other possible mach 1 attacks/speeds that I could also apply to the list so if you can think of anything interesting please do comment, I would greatly appreciate that!
(TCB Scan) This panel during the Maki and Naoya Fight implies that Naoya is just below Mach 1 in speed (Subsonic means speeds below Mach 1)
the official translation (John Werry Translations) states that he surpassed Subsonic speeds so feel free to take that as you wish although those scans also state Gojo can use CSM and Geto has the 6 eyes so I am more inclined to follow TCB personally
PS Users have been stated to be fastest aside from Gojo and they are subsonic which means they are a little slower than Mach 1 (350 m/s), Since the Bullet which Geto was able to perceive and react to was just as fast if not a little faster he would be able to keep up with other characters in the top 10 and below
I think that is it I am sorry for how long I made this I just wanted to go as in-depth as possible for this so I wouldn't have to come back and recorrect it, if there is any issues with this let me know and i'll make sure to correct it, as always i appreciate you for attending my Ted Talk!
(i will be taking a long rest now as i am so tired)
