Scam maybe? Weird Company name changes and limited company info
Hi all,
Hoping someone knows something about GeneralistAI. I applied for a job on Indeed with The Valentino Group which has little online presence. Will (Wilson) P****** contacted me to interview. I scheduled it through Calendly then went back and figured out who I originally applied with. When I googled GeneralisAI I got just generic stuff about being a generalist for AI and the website when I went to it is pretty basic with almost no info. The other company listed in his email was generalist.com which is some kind of newsletter also with very little information about the company though more than GeneralistAI. I figured it was a scam but could be a good opportunity to practice interview skills and waste a scammer's time.
I asked him why I couldn't find anything about the company and he said it was a startup etc. The job title I applied for was Data Collection Specialist at $18 an hour. The job is to wear an apparatus on your hand and it records everything as you go about your day doing things. Basically, feeding data to AI to learn to help those who have lost fingers or limbs. We met over zoom (I used the zoom app via a link so don't think they can steal info that way but maybe I'm naive).
Has anyone else actually heard of this company? It really seems like a scam. The person I spoke with demonstrated the machine and said that payroll would be through gusto (I thought he said Justo but Google corrected me). He is supposed to follow-up with an NDA and a video to watch before orientation. They also have to mail the device. It seems too good to be true which usually means it is.
Has anyone here had a similar experience with a company reporting to do something similar? I was second guessing my scam thoughts based on the zoom meeting but maybe that's the point. It did seem a little too easy and it did seem like they would be hiring too many people for a 3 month contract.
Just got an email to do DocuSign for their NDA and it has a DocuSign.net address which is the domain that sends it for DocuSign but doesn't mean it's real.
I'm too scared to click the links for the documents or engage further.
If anyone has any insight, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks!
Edit: mask name of the person
