Getting my foot in the door.

I just graduated this month with a B.S. in Computer Science and I am struggling to find work. The only relevant past experience I have is a Network Engineering Internship with a local networking company. I want to get into either network engineering or database administration/design but I really don't know where to start. I have been applying to IT support specialist and help desk jobs to try to get some more experience and make a living in the mean time but I am struggling to find anywhere that wants me. My real question is would it be worth it to try to get some sort of certification (CompTIA A+, Network+, etc.) or should I just keep applying? I know that personal projects would help me but I really don't know what kind of networking projects I can do at home. I am really just feeling a little lost in this job search and would appreciate any advice. Thanks!
