Is it even possible to rent a 1-bed flat near London on £2,000/month salary? Need advice!
I’m really hoping for some advice here. I’m 23, have been working full-time for about a year, and currently live with my parents in Zone 2. I work in Zone 1, but our flat has become far too cramped. My younger siblings are now sharing a room, so it looks like I’ll need to move out soon to give them more space.
My take-home pay is £2,000 per month, and I’ve been searching for an affordable 1-bed flat in commuter towns within a 1.5-hour journey to central London. I’m looking for somewhere with a cheap commute, as my budget is already tight. I’ve considered towns like Milton Keynes and Reading, but I’m not having much luck.
Flat-sharing isn’t an option for me due to health reasons, so I really need a place I can rent on my own. I work from home 2-3 days a week, so I’d only need to commute 2-3 days a week.
Is it even possible to rent a 1-bed flat in a commuter town around London on my salary? If you’ve been in a similar position or know of any hidden gems where I might find affordable rent and a cheap commute, I’d really appreciate your advice!
Edit: Apologies, I should have clarified earlier - my take hope salary is £2,000, my gross salary is £2,500 a month.
Edit 2: Thank you so much all of you for your replies and honesty. After much thoughts, I’m looking into property guardianship. Hopefully this is a good option. Please let me know if any of you have any experience with it.
