Advice for a Chronic Overpacker: One bag, One Crossbody for January NYC Trip

Hi everyone! I’m a 29F and, admittedly, a chronic overpacker. I’m planning my first solo trip to NYC this January and am challenging myself to travel light: just one bag for clothes and a crossbody for daily exploring.

The only luggage I currently own is a large Vera Bradley duffle, but I’d prefer something more practical for this trip. I’m leaning towards a backpack since I find it easier to manage weight evenly on my back rather than with a shoulder bag. Ideally, I’m looking for a backpack with space for a water bottle and a few easy-access pockets for essentials.

On top of that, I’d love any tips or recommendations for packing cubes or capsule wardrobe ideas specifically for winter in NYC. I’m hoping to stay warm, comfortable, and stylish without overstuffing my bag.

Any advice from seasoned travelers or packing pros would be so appreciated! Thanks in advance!
