Children’s book about a squirrel

I remember reading this book with my mother, it was about a squirrel that got left out of (or didn't want to go to) a party, and she cried while making jam and then eventually went to the party and the part that stuck with me went something like; "she told them how she cried salty tears into her jam pot and they all laughed" (might not be a squirrel! But she lived in a tree and I'm pretty sure it was a squirrel)
