I’m feeling more confident in this movie

Now I want to be clear, I have some issues, but I feel this trailer was worlds better than that first teaser.

My issues:

Yes, this movie looks very cheap compared to the other films, and sometimes the cuts in the trailer as just so jarring that it feels like a cheap fan trailer I’d see as a kid when looking up ‘x book as a movie’

Much of the color of the film at night seems to just be ‘grey’ and I’m unsure if this will help or hurt the film. Thus especially includes the crooked man who again, yes, looks very cheap

I still think some mild improvements could be made to Jack Kesey’s look as Hellboy, a stronger jawline, yes some yellow eyes.

However I think this trailer definitely improved a lot on showing this movie, direct panels from the comics looked good. I definitely am very much on board now with Kesey as a young Hellboy. I feel should this movie get a sequel, maybe set closer to Seed of Destruction as a different case, they could adjust the look to reflect aging, but Kesey definitely had a lot of Hellboy’s quick quips/remarks he has so much in the comics. “Alright snake, let’s rattle” feels so easily like a minute later in a fight he could say “SON OF A-“. I think the color grading looks much better on HB this time around, his red looks much better.

I think the movie will be fine, it won’t be winning any awards, it may end up around a 60% on rotten tomatoes, but hell, I feel I’m going to have a great time in theatres with my girlfriend, get scared, walk out an hour and a half later, and talk to her about how much it felt like the comics. While I was on vacation I saw the teaser and I was just broken seeing how horrible of a Teaser it was, but this trailer has definitely made me more in board, and more open to having a good time. So I guess that’s my takeaway on the movie so far, and hopefully if it makes enough to get a sequel, it can get a much needed budget increase so I don’t see the best direct to dvd movie in the bargain bin.
