[QUESTION] I've been told I hold the pick weirdly, but I've been playing this way for 13 years now. Is it detrimental to my development as a guitar player? (Pictures and story inside for reference)

I'm a completely self-taught guitar player, and I started holding the pick this way because I was heavily into Metallica while starting out, and this helped with the 'chugging' riffs. I only noticed I held my pick the 'wrong way' only four years ago. I grip it between the flat of my index finger and the flat of my thumb, and play it slanting 90 degrees away from the 'standard' pick holding style. It's been serving me well enough, and I tried changing to the standard style, but it's a lot of effort for me. Will the way I hold the pick right now affect my playing or development as a guitar player negatively in any way?

I personally find pinch harmonics hard to do, but that may be because of lack of serious practice. Are there guitar techniques this particular style might prevent?
