Hey need some help with soldering

Hey so I found out that I ripped a few cables in my guitar and I get no sound anymore (duh). I kinda want to do it myself but have little to no experience with soldering. I found a soldering pistol but I think I need these little grey sticks am I right? The round little container is like fat but I can't use that for a connection? Also do I need to connect a certain cable to a certain side of the jack? Any help and tips would be highly appreciated! Pictures for reference
