Makiatto - Meta Freeze Team

Makiatto, formally Macchiato is the next SSR T-Doll

WA2000, Wawa, Macchiato and now officially translated as Makiatto is the latest SSR T-Doll (following Suomi and Ullrid)

She is the queen of the Freeze Team and the main DPS that it centers around.

If you plan on making a Freeze Team, she is the one you want.

In CN, she was innitially released in quite a poor state, but was quickly given a buff, causing her to be the second best single target DPS Doll in the game (after Qiongjiu).

The other half to the Freeze Team is Dushevnaya. Though Dushe is considered a "premium whale option" as she is designed specifically for buffing Freeze Teams and is thus not used outside them. Very powerful in her role, but not as flexible.

Anywho, back to Makiatto.

Why you may want her:

  • Freeze Team Main DPS
  • Second highest Single-Target DPS
  • Great Survivability by both being able to keep distance as a Sniper as well as her Ultimate giving herself a Shield. (synergy with Suomi, who offers the same shield to maintain part of her kit).
  • Freeze slows and stops enemies from moving (can still attack).
  • Early Vertebrae upgrade (V1) is a very powerful buff to her DPS.

Some problems to consider:

  • While she does have her own shield and range to keep out of harms way, do note that some of her kit requires her to be above 80% HP. Depending on what you are fighting, this can be a problem and her DPS will drop if you cannot upkeep her defense. Suomi's shield can further help supplement her own and is labeled the same. So can be used in place too if Makiatto's own is down, but that is only extra if one has Suomi...
  • Without her Ultimate's Shield, she loses her ability to support attack.
  • Freeze is situationally good, as it only stops movement and many prefer Paralysis when given the option (Electric's Debuff), which doesn't stop movement, but prevents attacks. Pay attention to the objectives on whether or not allowing the enemy to move is necessary (also why sometimes you don't want Paralysis, despite being generally better, since enemies could still move towards objectives even if they couldn't attack...).
  • Without her V1 (or her signature weapon), a V6 Nemesis can out DPS her. This can be said about many SR Dolls that reach V6 when comparing them to a V0 SSR, but it should be noted. Having even one thing to synergize and/or buff Makiatto will push her beyond (Dushe, V1, Sig Weapon, any, a mix or all 3). It is nice that her power spike comes early at V1, but that is still a Con that many people may feel they need it.

Extra note on her V0 vs V1:

  • Without building any Crit Rate at all on Makiatto (be it from attachments, keys or buffs), her V1 is a massive improvement over V0, buffing her S1 by a DPS increase of +47%.
  • If you build Crit Rate (which benefits both V0 and V1), she only needs +40% from other sources because her passive gives so much free Crit Stats to reach 100% Crit Rate. With this, the gap between V0 to V1 for her S1 is now only a +28%. Still nice, but it does allow V0 to close in a little.

It is recommended to get her V1 over her weapon, but getting both her V1 and weapon solidify her as one of the top, if not the top single target DPS in the game. Qiongjiu though is a bit easier to use (though you want her at V3...) which generally places her in 1st because of that, Makiatto can beat her out in the right situations.

Hope that helps a bit on why people scream for V1.

Vertebrae Upgrades (for the whales)

Note that the V in V1, V2, and so on comes from Vertebrae, the original name used in the CN version that was changed to Fortification in the global release (for some reason...).

  • V1: Her S1 normally strikes a target for 160% Chill ATK with a +30% Crit DMG buff. This upgrade changes it so that it loses its Crit DMG buff, but instead hits twice. With the first hit doing only 100% and nothing extra, but the second hit doing another 100% Chill ATK with a 100% Crit Rate buff AND an 80% Crit DMG buff.

Recommended to get V1. Very powerful DPS upgrade.

  • V2: Her Ultimate is a buff that gives her a special shield that hurts the one that breaks it while also allowing her to support attack while the shield is up. This upgrade increases how powerful the shield is and allows her to do 3 support attacks instead of 2.

Simple survivability upgrade that can help maintain her buffs and get one more support attack in for some more DPS. Not as big of a jump in power, but more of a QoL upgrade.

  • V3: Her base passive just straight up gives Makiatto +40% Crit Rate and +10% Crit DMG. While also giving her both Insight and Steady Movement buffs if she is above 80% HP. While also giving her further buffs if the enemy is Frozen (main ice debuff), allowing her to ignore some Stability and do more damage. With Chill Elemental atacks getting further Stability ignoring and damage increasing buffs (the Frozen and Chill conditions cannot be stacked). With this upgrade, it just further increases how much Stability each of those states she can ignore with.

Essentially allows Makiatto to ignore 10 stability on a target (when using Chill attacks, so her S1, while if an enemy has Freeze, ignoring 6). Nice to have, but if you are already breaking your opponent, then this upgrade isn't doing anything.

  • V4: Her S2 is a physical attack for 130%. Using it helps recover 4 skill points and also gain 2 layers of a self buff that lowers AoE damage. This upgrade changes this self buff to a different one with the same effect, but the layers stack, making the buff stronger (still consuming one layer per hit taken as before).

Situationally helpful. Against AoE, this is very strong, allowing her to now lower the damage taken by 50% on that first hit with 2 layers from the skill. Instead of just 25% on both. Not a must get though, obviously.

  • V5: Already explained her Passive back in the V3, but this is another upgrade to it, increasing the damage buff under the the effects of an enemy having Freeze or Makiatto using Chill. Freeze also ignores 10 stability now too, like the Chill upgrade.

Overall simple DPS increase. Nothing game changing, but nice to have.

  • V6: Already explained her Ultimate in the V2, but this gives her Qiongjiu levels of support attack, with allowing her to do 4 now. If any of these support attack Crit, she gains a 1 turn stacking buff that increases her damage by 7.5% and can stack 4 times for all 4 support attacks. It also gives her Ultimate a +2 Skill Point on cast use that can be activated twice. Note that her Ultimate never had a skill cost, just a 3CD, so these skill points can be used to cast her S1 (costs 2 / no CD) whenever you want (S2 doesn't care as it is the same as the Ultimate, with a 0 cost / 3CD).

A VERY powerfull buff if you whale hard enough. Having 4 support attacks that give a ramping damage buff that maxes at +28% damage is quite amazing.

With Makiatto's passive giving her +40% Crit Rate already, it is easy to build her for 100% Crit Rate as well to guarantee this buff.

With all that said

Makiatto is amazing.

With a powerful expansion key on the way that gives her Ambush (allows her to not trigger counter attacks) with increase Crit DMG, but more importantly, will allow her to have an Extra Command after using her Ult (so she can attack on the same turn she casts this buff, kind of like Sabrina's V5, but no need for dupes). While also giving an additional +1 skill point when using a skill during this Extra Command. And that's not all, if attacking a boss with a support attack (which she'll be doing every turn) she applies a 2 turn debuff on the target that buffs (only her own) damage dealt to the target by an extra +15%.

If you plan on making a Freeze Team, you NEED Makiatto.

It's as simple as that. As she is the core of said team.
